The design of the Rose Window of Central Synagogue is based upon ancient Middle Eastern patterns. At the time that the Synagogue was completed, in 1872, these patterns were enormously appealing to Americans in the thrall of Victoriana.

Central Synagogue SilkCentral Synagogue, at Lexington Avenue and 55th Street in New York City, is a Moorish Revival building designed by Henry Fernbach, and consecrated in 1872. The sanctuary is the oldest Jewish house of worship in continuous use in the city of New York, and enjoys a designation as both a New York City and a National Historic Landmark.

The Sanctuary was seriously damaged by fire in August 1998. On September 9, 2001, after having undergone a magnificent restoration, the Sanctuary was reconsecrated.

This elegant hand-screened silk comprises replicas of the Rose Window.
