The design of the Rose Window of Central Synagogue is based upon ancient Middle Eastern patterns. At the time that the Synagogue was completed, in 1872, these patterns were enormously appealing to Americans in the thrall of Victoriana.

Central Synagogue

Central Synagogue SilkCentral Synagogue, at Lexington Avenue and 55th Street in New York City, is a Moorish Revival building designed by Henry Fernbach, and consecrated in 1872.
