 A Cathedral dedicated to St Paul has overlooked the City of London since AD 604, reminding
everybody in this hub of commerce of the importance of the spiritual side of life.

The current Cathedral - the fourth to occupy the site - was built between AD 1675 and AD 1710 after its predecessor was destroyed in the Great Fire of London. It was designed by the Court Architect Sir Christopher Wren and its architectural and artistic importance reflects the close relationship between Church and State in Britain.

The Cathedral has been the setting for many great events. In recent times, they include include the funeral of Sir Winston Churchill in 1965 and the wedding of the H.R.H. the Prince of Wales to Lady Diana Spencer in 1981

The mosaics in the Quire, which depict the Creation of the Birds, Fishes and Beasts, were designed by Sir William Richmond in 1891. The verses that surround the dome are from Psalm 104:

"O Lord, how manifold are Thy works;
in wisdom has Thou made them all,
Qvam magnificata svnt opera tva domine
omnia in sapientia,
Praise the Lord, O my soul; O Lord my God,
Thou art become exceeding glorious,
Benedic anima mea domino domine devs
mevs magnificat,
Hoc mare magvm et spatiosvm manibvs
animalia pvsill."
